Southport Pier Tram
Built by UK Loco Ltd, the Battery Electric Tram can be seen in operation on Southport Pier, Southport, UK.
This eco friendly, free running tram encompasses state of the art battery technology with a modern, stylish look. With low running costs, quiet operation and passenger capacity of 74 (including RVAR compliancy with space for 2 wheelchairs) it is proving a huge success with the client and creating a great deal of interest as an alternative mode of transport from the pier to the town center. The state of the art battery technologies erase the necessity for overhead cables/power lines making it perfect for use as a light urban transport system. The low running costs together with the increase customer attraction generates increased profit/revenue for the operator.

Dave Richardson, Special Projects Manager for the pier refurbishment at Southport is also impressed, “UK Loco has done a fantastic job, producing a state-of-the-art vehicle to run along the Grade II listed pier. The process has run smoothly from start to finish and we’re delighted with the end result.
“The tram links the UK's second longest pier with Southport town-centre and is a modern version of an original feature seen on the pier when it was first built in 1860,” Mr Richardson points out. “It provides a fun way for visitors to travel and is also a practical solution for those with limited mobility to reach the pavilion and other pier attractions.”
